What does PPA mean in NYSC and how can I find a good Place of Primary Assignment during service?

PPA in NYSC simply means Place of Primary Assignment. That’s the organisation or establishment where you’ll be posted to work after camp. It could be a school, hospital, company, NGO, government office, etc.

For me, after camp, NYSC gave me a posting letter to a secondary school. But here’s what I did to find a better PPA that suited my skills:

    – First, I asked around during camp if any organizations were accepting corps members. Some came to camp directly to request for people.
    – I also talked to older corps members in my area to know which places treat corps members well.
    – I personally went to a private firm I liked, and they gave me an acceptance letter. I took it to my LGI and they approved it.

Key things I looked out for in a good PPA:

    1. A place that gives accommodation or allowance
    2. Somewhere I could learn something useful
    3. An environment that’s safe and not stressful

To be honest, sometimes you need to hustle your way into a good PPA, but it’s worth it. Don’t just settle for where NYSC posts you if you know you can get something better.
